Christmas in The Lake District and Spain

The Spanish have got used to celebrating Christmas Day because of all the foreigners and not least because the children like the idea of all the presents! It is still a time for religion over the whole period but as with any country it changes with outside influences. Religious festivals are as popular as ever in general BUT trends mean older people and children tend to join in more these days. However, everyone loves to dress up. Anyway, Feliz Navidad.
I remember going to a New Year’s Eve party in a club which most Spanish would not bother with in a semi-rural area. But the place was full of both Spanish and foreigners. Young Spanish it has to be said. Of course towns and cities are different.

The British have so much TV advertising to cope with telling them they need to buy, buy, buy, buy all manner of goods to keep children and family happy. This commercial aspect is quite staggering. Still, some manage to combine religion, partying and present buying. Where am I? Somewhere in the middle.
In the Lake District there is an influx of visitors. until Easter when the season starts again. Not that it ever goes totally quiet. Serious walkers come in the winter, glad to be away from the crowds. As ever dogs are welcome and happily follow their owners muddy boots into cosy pubs with real fires. It is a lovely atmosphere. So, happy Christmas.
I am not packing the blogs in till the fat lady sings about the end of December. I know her well, she is going on a diet on New Year’s Day. She said that last year. Didn’t we all.
